Two from Dixon hurt when driver falls asleep in New Year's Eve I-44 wreck

DIXON, Mo. -- A Dixon woman and child suffered minor injuries in a single-vehicle New Year's Eve crash when the driver, Gino V. Levine, 42, also of Dixon, fell asleep at 7:12 a.m. Saturday while driving on I-44 a mile west of Phillipsburg.

According to Missouri State Highway Patrol reports, Levine was driving eastbound in a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox when he ran off the left side of the roadway on I-44, returned to the roadway, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment, causing extensive damage to his vehicle which was towed by C&I Towing. His two passengers, Joyce Hampton, 28, and an unnamed one-year-old boy were transported by Mercy Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Lebanon. All three had been wearing seat belts or child restraints.

In an unrelated arrest reported by state troopers. Isaiah J. Barr, 25, of Waynesville, was arrested on Sunday, Jan. 1 at 1:04 a.m. in Pulaski County on charges of driving while intoxicated by alcohol and careless and imprudent driving resulting in an accident. He was booked and released.
